Mumbai Indians beat the defending champions Gujarat Titans by 27 runs in match 57 of IPL 2023 on Friday, May 12 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. After being put into bat first, MI rode on Suryakumar Yadav’s sensational hundred (103* off 49) and posted a massive total of 218/5 in the first innings.

In reply, Gujarat could only manage to reach 191/8 in their allotted 20 overs with Rashid Khan top-scoring with his whirlwind knock of 79* off 32 balls.

The win for MI has given a headache to the remaining seven teams except Gujarat and CSK, denting their hopes of qualification to the playoffs. Following their comprehensive win, Mumbai climbed to the third spot in the IPL 2023 points table having 14 points to their name with seven wins from 12 matches.

MI’s win has massively affected Sunrisers Hyderabad who’re currently ranked on the ninth spot with four wins from 10 games and have 8 points. SRH cannot afford another loss in the tournament and hence will have to win all of their remaining fixtures against LSG, GT, RCB and MI.

And they will further have to hope that Mumbai also lose against LSG in their next fixture. Furthermore, the Aiden Markram-led side also needs RR and PBKS to lose one game each out of their remaining fixtures. In such a scenario, Mumbai, Rajasthan and Punjab each will finish with 14 points while SRH will have 16 points to their name clearing their road to the playoffs.

Lucknow Super Giants qualification scenario

As far as Lucknow Super Giants are concerned, they’re fifth on the points table with five wins from 11 matches having 11 points to their name. They have three games remaining against SRH, MI and KKR. A win in all of their remaining fixtures will seal their place in the play-offs.

However, if they manage to lose one out of their remaining games their fate will be in the hands of RCB, RR, PBKS and MI. If RR lose one game more then the Sanju Samson led-side will have to hope that RCB, RR and PBKS lose one game each out of their remaining fixtures and MI lose both of their remaining games.

With the tournament heading towards the final stages, the excitement among the fans is at its highest as the teams are battling it out to finish in the top four and make it to the playoffs. Hence, the upcoming matches are all going to be a mouth-watering affair for the fans.
