In the 45th game of the Indian Premier League 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru took on the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the toss and opted to field first in the hope of chasing down the total with ease.
Gujarat Titans started off poorly as they could not get the foundation from their openers whatsoever. A mesmerizing fifty from Shahrukh Khan brought the momentum to the side and combined with another great knock from Sai Sudharsan, the hosts were able to reach a total of 199 in their 20 overs.
In reply, Royal Challengers Bengaluru started off well with the openers laying the foundation with a great powerplay. Faf du Plessis departed inside the powerplay itself but that brought Will Jacks to the crease. The batter combined with Virat Kohli for a 166-run partnership and took his side home with four overs to spare.
Ahead of their next game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, let us take a look at the changes that Gujarat Titans should make.
Here are the three changes that Gujarat Titans should make ahead of their next game:
3. Improve fielding
Once again the fielding was a poor aspect for the Gujarat Titans. They have been a team which has not been consistent at all with their fielding and have lost momentum due to a lot of misfields and missed chances.
Today once again, great fielders of the team in the form of Azmatullah Omarzai and David Miller could have stopped the ball from going to the boundary rope but failed miserably. These chances need to be taken as it shifts the momentum to the opposition otherwise.
2. Bring in Kane Williamson for Azmatullah Omarzai
It is about time that Joshua Little starts for the franchise this season. After having an exemplary campaign last year for Gujarat Titans, it was assumed that he would be starting a chunk of games this time around as well. However, the franchise has decided to include other overseas options in their line-up but after such a dismal performance, Little might get included in the next game.
Noor Ahmed might be dropped from the starting XI for the next game as he has not been performing consistently for the side. He has been leaking runs from one end and is unable to put the pressure on the batters. Today also, he was smashed all over the park by Will Jacks and it might be time for the overseas spinner to be dropped.
1. Start Joshua Little instead of Noor Ahmad
Azmatullah Omarzai was touted to be the proper replacement for Hardik Pandya. However, the poor performances have continued for the Afghanistan all-rounder and it might be time that the team management takes a call on him. He is not able to contribute much with both bat and ball and has become a liability more than anything else.
The franchise can start Kane Williamson instead of him as he can contribute well with the bat and can hold down one end. He is one of the batters that is known to take the innings forward and can contribute one or two overs with his part-time spin bowling. This might be a great alternative for the side who are known to do things the hard way during run-chases.
