2. Pat Cummins, Sunrisers Hyderabad (INR 20.50 crore)
The Australian captain in Tests and ODIs joined the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for a whopping INR 20.50 crore. He became the most expensive player in IPL history for a brief while during the auction. Before the start of the season, Cummins was appointed as the captain of the Sunrisers, replacing Aiden Markram.
On Saturday, March 23, he was in action at the Eden Gardens as SRH faced two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Cummins introduced himself into the attack in the fifth over and conceded just seven runs. He came back to bowl the ninth over and went for 11 runs. The right-arm pacer eventually finished with figures of 1/32 in his four overs as KKR posted a mammoth 208/7 in their 20 overs. Pat Cummins, who is a capable batter, came out to the crease with his team needing five runs off the last ball. He swung hard but failed to connect a slower ball from Harshit Rana as the hosts won by four runs.
