Delhi Capitals (DC) returned to winning ways in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) with a six-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their last encounter. They ended LSG’s home domination and the streak of defending scores in excess of 160. However, currently ninth in the points table, DC will need to continue this momentum in the remainder of the series to make it to the last four.
Rishabh Pant and his team will travel to Ahmedabad to take on Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday, April 17. The 2022 champions won their last match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in an edge-of-the-seat thriller and are now sixth in the standings. It will be an exciting battle to watch out for as both the teams with quality line-ups face each other.
The return of Kuldeep Yadav, who missed a few matches due to injury, has bolstered their bowling attack. Australian star striker Jake Jake Fraser-McGurk made a memorable IPL debut against LSG, while Tristan Stubbs continues to impress with his explosive batting. DC have had some positives in the last couple of matches and will look to add more to the list in the game against GT.

Here's the probable playing XI for DC versus GT IPL 2024 clash:
Openers: Prithvi Shaw, David Warner
Prithvi Shaw has performed well in the last two matches. The right-handed batter scored 66 off 40 balls against Mumbai Indians (MI) and made a strong start with 32 off 22 balls in the last game against LSG. However, the opening pair is a concern for the franchise due to David Warner's poor form.
The explosive Australian opener David Warner has struggled to find runs and has yet to play an impressive knock this season. The veteran opener's contribution was scores of 10 and 8 in the last two matches. The franchise is hoping for a strong comeback from Warner as it will not be an easy decision for them to drop one of the legends of the league.

Middle-order: Jake Fraser-McGurk, Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Tristan Stubbs
Jake Fraser-McGurk gave the DC batting unit a big boost with a fiery knock in the match against LSG. The Australian power-hitter scored a 35-ball 55 on his debut to lead his team to a memorable win and cemented his position at No. 3 for the remainder of the series. West Indies skipper, Shai Hope, who returned to the team in the last match, will play the anchoring role in the middle overs.
Skipper Rishabh Pant's fearless mentality was one of the key factors in their success on the slow surface in Lucknow. The DC captain hit Ravi Bishnoi for a four and a six in the 11th over, setting the tone for a comfortable chase. Pant finished with 41 of just 24 balls. Tristan Stubbs was the lone warrior when DC had to chase down a mammoth target of 235 against MI. The Proteas youngster smashed 71 runs at a staggering strike rate of 284.
All-rounder: Axar Patel
Axar Patel is a vital cog in the DC unit. Although the Indian all-rounder is yet to fire with the bat, his left-arm orthodox spin has delivered the goods for the team. He has the knack of picking up crucial wickets and being economical at the same time.
Patel's four overs in the middle overs are indeed essential for DC to apply breaks to the opposition's scoring. He was one of the franchise's best finishers in the last season and is expected to step up with the bat at the right time this time around as well. Lalit Yadav is another good spin-bowling all-rounder in their roster.

Bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed
Ace wrist spin wizard Kuldeep Yadav was adjudged Player of the Match against LSG for grabbing three wickets conceding 20 runs in four overs. The left-arm wrist spinner missed a few matches due to injury which hurt the team. However, he is back in style and DC will be hoping for similar heroics from the star bowler in the remaining matches.
Delhi were without Anrich Nortje in the last match as the Proteas pacer has been struggling for form. Consequently, this paved the way for Mukesh Kumar to return to the XI, having missed the last few matches due to injury. However, the right-arm seamer conceded an economy of 10.20 with just one wicket. Delhi's other two fast bowlers are Ishant Sharma and Khaleel Ahmed. who have made some notable contributions in between but will need to amp up their game in the upcoming fixture.
