IPL 2024 Qualification Scenarios: How can Lucknow Super Giants qualify for playoffs after loss against RR in Match 44?

A thrilling match took place at the Ekana Sports Stadium on Saturday, as the table-topping Rajasthan Royals faced off against the Lucknow Super Giants. Both teams had been performing well this season, with each having secured a win in their previous games. Lucknow Super Giants put up a challenging score of 196 for 5 in 20 overs, thanks to half-centuries from KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda. Rahul's performance was particularly outstanding as he led his team from the front.

However, Rajasthan Royals were not to be outdone. Samson stepped up to the plate, smashing an unbeaten 71 runs and leading his team to a 7-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants. Dhruv Jurel also contributed with a score of 51. Rajasthan Royals managed to chase down the 197-run target with one over to spare. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants will be hoping for better results in their upcoming fixtures.

LSG will aim to avoid further hindrances

LSG are currently placed in the fourth position in the points table of the ongoing tournament. So far, LSG have played nine games and emerged victorious in five matches. However, they have also lost three games. In order to qualify for the playoffs, LSG need to win at least three out of their next five games, which will take their total points to 16. Additionally, LSG have to keep a tab on their net run rate as it can play a crucial role in determining their position in the points table. 

“If Hooda pushed on and scored 20 more, and I got 20 more then we’d finish around 220. That would have been the difference, that’s the 20 runs we left behind. We’re seeing with every game how important it is to give the bowlers that extra cushion because they are under the pump. Everyone loves range hitting and hitting it all over the park, we are no different. It is part of the prep. Our big hitters are Stoinis and Pooran who can hit those big shots. The other guys like us try to pick our areas and time the shots better,” said Rahul in the post-match presentation.
