Mumbai Indians (MI) went down to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in match 49 of IPL 2024 at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow by four wickets. LSG skipper KL Rahul won the toss and chose to bowl where MI put up a score of 145 on board for LSG. With the help of Marcus Stoinis' extraordinary batting, LSG won the match at their home. MI's batting lineup failed to perform against the bowlers of LSG. Ishan Kishan and Nehal Wadhera scored 32 and 46 runs respectively.
On the other hand, LSG made a great start as they made 57 in 7 overs. Skipper and in-form batter KL Rahul unfortunately could not score in the match against Mumbai Indians. However, when Marcus Stoinis came into bat, he hit boundaries and helped LSG reach 116 runs in 15 overs. It was not a difficult target to chase for LSG as in this season we have seen the teams put up a target of 200+ runs on board which also gets chased by the second team.

Difficult situations arise for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024
Mumbai Indians are in ninth place in the standings after their loss against the Lucknow Super Giants. They have a dismal net run rate of -0.272 and 6 points from 10 games. MI will no longer be able to make the IPL 2024 playoffs after this loss.
Beginning in 2022, when there will be ten teams in the T20 league, franchises must earn at least 16 points to place in the top 4. There are just four games left for the Mumbai Indians to play in the IPL 2024 league stage. MI will only finish with 14 points overall, even if they win all four of them.
Even if the Mumbai Indians are not officially knocked out of the tournament, only a mathematical miracle will allow them to finish in fourth place and go to the playoffs. MI will need to win each of their final four games by significant margins for that to occur. Furthermore, none of the other six teams which is extremely unlikely must finish with fewer than 12 points; instead, the top three teams must finish with more than 16 points.
In case more than one team finish the iPL league stage with 14 points, Mumbai Indians will have to have a net run rate that is better than the other teams to step towards the playoffs of iPL 2024.
