IPL 2024: Rating the most expensive flops after league stage

The IPL is known to be a cash-rich league. Players from different parts of the world can be a part of the league and earn a lot of money by playing a little over two months of cricket. The lives of the individuals change with a single contract in the league. Without a doubt, skills that are unique are valued and have a huge demand. Some such players were highly expensive at the start of the IPL 2024, the 17th edition of the league. While some of them fared well and managed to do justice to their price tags, others could not do well. While some felt that there was pressure on the players to perform given the price tag, others felt that the poor form would have contributed to the failure of the players. Some players played well and were being paid highly. It is time to look at the players who flopped in the group stage despite being paid highly. Here are the most expensive flops after the league stage of IPL 2024: 1. Sameer Rizvi Sameer Rizvi was brought by CSK for a price of INR 8.4 crores, making him the highest-paid uncapped player of the season. The youngster could not live up to the expectations and the price tag. He scored 51 runs in five innings at a batting average of 12.75, at a batting SR of 118.60 with a best score of 21. 2. Alzarri Joseph Alzarri Joseph was brought for a price of INR 11.50 crores, making him the most expensive buy from RCB for the season. The West Indian bowler was poor in his show and cost RCB some games with his bowling. In three games, the right-arm pacer claimed a solitary wicket at a bowling average of 115.00, a bowling SR of 58.00, and an economy rate of 11.89. 3. Deepak Chahar Deepak Chahar did not play in the second half of the league due to injuries. But in the first half, he was not that good. Being retained for a price of INR 14 crores, Deepak was ordinary for CSK. The right-arm pacer claimed five wickets in eight innings at a bowling average of 40.40, a bowling SR of 28.20, and an economy rate of 8.59. 4. Daryl Mitchell Daryl Mitchell was the most expensive player brought by CSK in the auction. There were huge expectations from the fans for him to do well given his performances in the ODI World Cup 2023. Shimron Hetmyer Shimron Hetmyer has had an off-season for RR. The Southpaw managed to finish a solitary game for RR and failed in other games. His failure is one of the main reasons for RR to not top the table. He has not gotten many chances to bat. But in the games he got a chance, Hetmyer could not fire, barring the game against PBKS. 6. Rahul Tripathi Rahul Tripathi did not get a lot of chances in the lineup of SRH. However, in the chances he got, the right-handed batter did not perform well. The star batter was retained for a price of INR 8.50 crores by SRH. In two games for the franchise, the right-handed batter scored 31 runs at a batting average of 15.50, and a batting SR of 91.17. The star batter was retained for a price of INR 8.25 crores. Agarwal scored 64 runs in four matches for the Orange Army at a batting average of 16.00 and a batting SR of 112.28. 8. Rilee Rossouw Rille Rossouw disappointed PBKS with his poor batting performances. The South African was highly inconsistent and became responsible for some losses of the 2014 runner-ups. Devdutt Padikkal Coming into the IPL 2024, Devdutt Padikkal had good numbers for Karnataka in the domestic tournaments. The Southpaw was poor for LSG in the chances he got. He was picked by the Lucknow-base franchise for a price of 7.75 crores. In seven innings, the southpaw scored 38 runs at a poor batting average of 5.42 and an SR of 71.69. 10. Anrich Nortje Anrich Nortje is probably the biggest disappointment of the IPL 2024. The South African had terrible performances for DC on a consistent basis and never seemed to be at his best. The star bowler was retained for a price of INR 6.50 crores. The express pacer claimed seven wickets in six matches at a bowling average of 42.00, a bowling SR of 18.85, and an economy rate of 13.36.
