The reverse fixture between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will be played on Thursday, May 9. This time Punjab will host the party at their home ground, Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala.
RCB clinched a four-wicket win when the two met in Bengaluru earlier this season. However, since then Faf du Plessis and Co. have endured a horror time with six defeats on the trot. However, they have performed admirably in their last three matches, winning all of them and climbing to the seventh position in the points table.
Meanwhile, Punjab, as usual, have had an inconsistent run in the league and are eighth in the table with four wins from 11 matches. A loss in the upcoming match will close the doors to the playoffs for both teams. Can RCB keep the momentum going in the survival race against PBKS?

Here's the probable Playing XI for RCB versus PBKS IPL 2024 clash:
Openers: Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis (c)
RCB openers have done well in the powerplay so far this season. While Virat Kohli is currently the highest run-scorer in the tournament with over 540 runs, Faf du Plessis is the second-highest run-scorer for RCB. Both are playing aggressively in the initial overs to give the team a quick-fire start to their innings.
In the last match against Gujarat Titans, they had made a partnership of 92 runs in the Powerplay. Notably, Kohli was adjudged Player of the Match in RCB's win over PBKS in their previous meeting. Du Plessis had a bad day at the office, but the Proteas batter has returned to form recently and will look to continue the momentum.

Middle-order: Rajat Patidar, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Mahipal Lomror
RCB batters have a slight weakness against spinners but don't include Rajat Patidar in that list. The right-hander has been inconsistent this season, but he has made some impactful cameos in some matches. He is a good hitter against spin bowling and brings much-needed stability in the middle order.
Dinesh Karthik will bat in the lower middle order and will be set for a finishing role. He has played some remarkable knocks this season, including against PBKS. The keeper-batter remained unbeaten on 28 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 280 to take his team over the line against PBKS. Mahipal Lomror's batting position will depend on the game situation. He is someone who can chip in with some crucial runs in the late stages of the game.

All-rounders: Will Jacks, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green
Will Jacks’ sensational form has boosted RCB’s confidence. The Englishman is equally strong against spinners and batters. Having recently smashed a 41-ball 100 against Gujarat Titans, he seems even more thirsty to achieve more. Jacks is also a handy off-spinner.
Next in the line-up are Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green. The underperformance of the two Australians has been a headache for the franchise. Fans will not expect much from them in the batting department. Meanwhile, Maxwell had taken two wickets in the last match against PBKS. On the other hand, Green was impressive with his fast bowling in the last match against GT, conceding an economy 7 and picking up a wicket.

Bowlers: Karn Sharma, Yash Dayal, Mohammed Siraj
Karn Sharma will be RCB's specialist spinner. The right-arm leg-spinner has been not impressive as he has leaked runs in abundance and failed to take wickets consistently. Karn will have the assistance of Impact Player Swapnil Singh in the middle overs.
Yash Dayal and Mohammed Siraj will comprise RCB's pace bowling unit. The two performed impressively in the previous clash against PBKS. Siraj took two wickets at an economy rate of 6.50 while Dayal took one wicket at 5.80. RCB will be hoping that both of them will have another effective outing.
