IPL 2024: Team-wise worst pick of the tournament
Some of the players were not at their best in the 17th edition of the league.
The IPL 2024 witnessed some great performances from the players individually. Some of them won a lot of matched for their side while others tried their best to make a name for themselves. It was an entertaining tournament till some point. After high-scoring games became a norm, the matches got a bit predictable and boring. There were not many fresh faces either.
Some of the players who did well in the last season turned out to be dud. Despite the room to do well, some performers came short and were not at their best. Such players cost a lot of games gor their side which probably affected their chances of winning the season. While the teams continued to back them, the players could not deliver.
Here is the list of players who performed the worst for their side in the IPL 2024:
10. MI - Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya had a mediocre season both as a batter and as a bowler. When he did return to form in the second half of the season, it was probably a bit too late for MI, as they were almost in the brink of elimination. The star All-rounder was poor as a player and as a captain. His failure was one of the main reasons for MI's poor season.
9. GT - Wriddhiman Saha
Wriddhiman Saha was the biggest disappointment of the season as a batter. After doing well in the last 3-4 seasons, he had the worst season for a GT batter. While Saha was good as a wicketkeeper, he could not give a consistent run as a batter. His poor form was the biggest reason for the failure of the 2022 champions in the season.
8. PBKS - Jitesh Sharma
Jitesh Sharma was the biggest failure for PBKS without a doubt. He was the key contender to be India's WK batter for the T20 WC 2024. But his form in the IPL 2024 meant that India could not trust him to have in the squad. Lack of aggression was probably the reason for his failure. After doing well for PBKS in 2022 and 2023, he had a poor season as a WK batter.
7. LSG - Quinton De Kock
Quinton De Kock played a couple of good knocks for LSG. But his campaign wasn't that good overall. The WK batter often perished quickly. When he lasted a bit longer, the Southpaw did not score at a good rate. For a team that did not have a good batting, De Kock did not being a lot of value. Despite getting enough backing, he turned out to be bad.
6. DC - Anrich Nortje
Anrich Nortje was arguably the biggest disappointment of the season. The express pacer was smashed by a lot of batters for fun that cost DC a lot of games in the first half. It eventually became the reason for DC's inability to qualify for the playoffs. Despite claiming wickets, the South African was expensive and conceded a lot of runs on a consistent basis.
