Mumbai Indians have bounced back in style in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League after their underwhelming campaign last term. Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma, who is the most successful captain in the competition's history, will look to improve his individual record in the playoffs when he gets out to bat against Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator.

Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma boasts of a prolific record in India's premier domestic competition and is among the leading run scorers in the tournament's history. Rohit has guided Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles, the most by any skipper, during his glorious tenure with the franchise.

While his team boasts of an incredible record in the playoffs, winning 13 of their 18 matches at this stage of the tournament, their skipper's numbers with the bat in the knockout stages make for grim viewing. The influential Indian opener featured in the knockout stages for the first time for his former side Deccan Chargers in 2009.

The Indian batting maestro has appeared in the knockout stages 19 times, scoring 297 runs with a paltry average of 16.50. He has breached the fifty-run mark on two occasions in the playoffs, with his highest score being 68 runs. His 297 runs have come at an uncharacteristically low strike rate of 108.79.

Rohit Sharma's playoffs journey started with Deccan Chargers

His first outing in the playoffs saw him remain unbeaten at the crease with five runs to his name in a winning cause for Deccan Chargers against Delhi Daredevils. Playing in the middle order for Adam Gilchrist's side, Rohit compiled a handy cameo of 24 runs in the IPL 2009 final, lifting the trophy for the first time.

Although the expressive Indian opener has lifted five more titles since then, he has not been able to have the desired impact with the bat for the Mumbai-based franchise in the playoffs. While he has endured an indifferent campaign this term, he is headed into the crucial playoff match against LSG on the back of a brisk half-century in his last outing, which might help him improve his record in the knockout stages of IPL.
