NZ vs IND: 3 Indian players who will be under pressure to perform in ODI series
India's ODI series against New Zealand begins on November 25.
1. Shikhar Dhawan
India’s stand-in ODI captain against New Zealand, Shikhar Dhawan, is having a challenging time in international cricket. However, his numbers for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy have been encouraging. However, despite leading the Indian side at the moment, Shikhar Dhawan’s spot might be at risk when other senior cricketers return.
KL Rahul will be eager to open alongside Rohit Sharma in ODI cricket but is unable to do so because of Dhawan’s presence. The youngster Shubman Gill too is proving his class in international cricket and thus, the 36-year-old needs to remain consistent and be at the top of the game every time he steps on the field. In case he fails to do so, Dhawan can very well lose his spot in the squad. Thus, he will be under tremendous pressure in the coming series.
In 161 ODI matches so far, the southpaw has scored 6672 runs at a strike rate of 91.78. He is someone who can play both the roles of an anchor and a smasher, which eventually helps the other batter settle down. Now, after a poor home series against South Africa, Dhawan would expect to return back to form and cement his place at the top of the order.
