Double centuries in One Day Internationals (ODIs) cricket have become quite common over the years and it clearly states the evolving mindset of the batters of the modern era. There have always been rewards for risks and the batters are happy to take the risky option which has given them the chance to break some records. Not many&nbsp;in the past would have predicted double centuries by individuals to become a common factor in ODI cricket. &nbsp;

It is important to make use of every opportunity that comes the way of the players with the competitiveness involved in the game. A double century in ODIs is a huge statement as it does take a lot of consistent ball striking and depends on a lot of factors including the dimensions of the ground and the type of pitch on offer. &nbsp;

Also, players are known to get carried away after scoring a century, and hence scaling double centuries requires an immense level of mental strength. With all that said, it is time to rank all the double hundreds scored in ODI cricket so far based on factors like opposition, the magnitude of the occasion among others.

9. Rohit Sharma 208* vs Sri Lanka

After losing the first ODI to Sri Lanka at Dharamsala on December 10, 2017, the Men in Blue needed a dominating performance in Mohali (in the second ODI) and skipper Rohit led from the front with a mind-blowing knock.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Shikhar Dhawan and <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/social-tracker-cricket/yeh-club-ka-mazza-alag-hai-rohit-sharma-welcomes-ishan-kishan-to-200-run-club-after-latters-majestic-knock-against-bangladesh/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rohit</a> put on a 115-run stand for the first wicket and gave the impetus to the innings up front. Rohit paired up with Shreyas Iyer for the second-wicket and added 213 runs for the same. Rohit never looked like making a double hundred until he started to unleash his full power at the back end of the innings.&nbsp;

The right-hander brought up his double ton in 151 balls and the Mohali stadium erupted to acknowledge the magnificent moment. No other cricketer has scored more than one ODI double-century and Rohit scored his third that day. He finished unbeaten on 208 off 153 balls with 12 sixes and 13 fours against a clueless Sri Lankan bowling attack. &nbsp;

8. Rohit Sharma 209 vs Australia

Rohit Sharma set the world on fire with his first double-century in ODI cricket in 2013 against Australia in Bengaluru. India were put into bat by Australian skipper George Bailey and openers Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan compiled 112 runs for the first wicket in just 19 overs. Virat Kohli surprisingly was dismissed for a duck while Rohit stitched a crucial partnership with Suresh Raina. &nbsp;

The right-hander got to his century while wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals on the other end and it was his partnership with MS Dhoni that took India to a huge total (383/6). The two batters decimated the Australian bowlers and hammered them to all parts of the park. Rohit, in particular, went bang-bang during the final overs. &nbsp;

The opening batter hit a total of 16 sixes in the innings, a record that was later broken by Eoin Morgan (17 sixes) against Afghanistan in the 2019 World Cup. He reached his double hundred in 156 balls and finished with 209 off 158 balls in the innings. India managed to get to 383 for 6 in their 50 overs on the back of Rohit’s double century and Australia fell 57 runs short of the target. &nbsp;

7. Fakhar Zaman 210* vs Zimbabwe

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-players/fakhar-zaman/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fakhar Zaman</a> smashed a sensational double century in Bulawayo (4th ODI) during Pakistan's tour of Zimbabwe in 2018 and became the first Pakistan batter to achieve the feat. The left-hander opened the innings alongside Imam-ul-Haq and added 304 runs for the first wicket to leave the Zimbabwe bowlers in complete disarray.&nbsp;

Fakhar was the aggressor in the partnership and reached his double ton in just 148 balls. He remained unbeaten on 210 off 156 deliveries at the end of the innings with five sixes and 24 fours in the innings. His partner Imam also made a century but was dismissed after adding 113 runs. &nbsp;

Fakhar’s terrific knock helped Pakistan post a massive total of 399 for 1. The visitors ended up with a massive victory by 244 runs as Shadab Khan ran through the Zimbabwe batting line-up and bagged a four-wicket haul. The knock was quite special as it came away from home.

6. Virender Sehwag 219 vs West Indies

Virender Sehwag was known for his aggressive style of play and attacked bowlers from the word go. He relied on his unparalleled hand-eye coordination and hammered bowlers at will. Despite his lack of footwork Sehwag was so successful in his international career and was among the most feared batters of his time.

Sehwag, with the amount of talent he possessed, it was only a matter of time before he reached his first double ton in ODI cricket. The right-hander achieved the feat in just 140 balls against the West Indies in 2011 and it’s still the third-fastest double century in ODIs.&nbsp;

The whole Holkar Stadium in Indore enjoyed the thunderstorm from the batter as the Windies never looked like putting an end to the assault. Sehwag was finally dismissed for 219 off 149 deliveries and hit 25 fours and seven sixes during his superlative knock. On account of Sehwag’s brilliance, India posted 418 on the board and ended up winning the game by 153 runs. &nbsp;

5. Chris Gayle 215 vs Zimbabwe

The 2015 World Cup saw two double centuries getting scored and <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-players/chris-gayle/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chris Gayle</a> became the first-ever cricketer to score a double ton in World Cups. The left-hander with his destructive skills was always close to playing a huge knock and recorded the highest individual score by a West Indian batter in ODIs against Zimbabwe on February 24, 2015.

Dwayne Smith was dismissed off the very second ball of the innings against Zimbabwe and Gayle joined hands with Marlon Samuels to strike together a partnership of 372 for the second wicket. The Universe Boss reached his 100-run mark in no time and was on track for a huge score. In just 138 deliveries, Gayle got to his double ton to register a scintillating knock.&nbsp;

Gayle hit 16 sixes and equaled the record of hitting the second-most number of maximums in an ODI innings by a batter. He was dismissed off the final delivery after adding 215 in just 147 balls as the West Indies won the game by 73 runs after posting 372 on the board.&nbsp;

4. Martin Guptill 237* vs West Indies

Martin Guptill holds the record for scoring the highest individual score in a World Cup and the Kiwi recorded the feat in the 2015 World Cup in Wellington. Guptill’s double ton also remains the second-highest individual score in ODI history by a batter and he was sensational throughout the same with some impeccable stroke-making. &nbsp;

Guptill’s partnership with Ross Taylor for the third wicket was the turning point and it invited a lot of aggressive play from the former. He kept hitting sixes for fun and managed to keep the bowlers under pressure once he crossed the 100-run mark.&nbsp;

Guptill’s double ton came up in 152 balls and he went on to remain unbeaten on 237 off 163 balls with 24 fours and 11 sixes in his innings. The fact that Guptill was able to do it on the biggest of stages in front a packed crowd was unthinkable and he was quite emotional after playing the substantial knock. The Kiwis won the game comfortably by 143 runs despite the West Indies scoring 250 in just 29 overs.&nbsp;

3. Ishan Kishan 210 vs Bangladesh

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-players/ishan-kishan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ishan Kishan</a> came in as a replacement for the injured Rohit Sharma in the Chattogram ODI against Bangladesh in 2022 and he played one of the best knocks in limited-overs cricket. The left-hander broke a list of records while getting to his double century including becoming the youngest to do so and scored the fastest double century in ODIs. &nbsp;

Kishan kept clearing the ropes with ease throughout his knock and it was a high-quality innings given how the series had panned out until that. He capitalised on the chance and made it count with a fantastic double century which came in just 126 balls. &nbsp;

In fact, the 24-year-old had enough time to get to a triple century in the same innings which would have been incredible, however, he was dismissed for 210 off 131 balls. Kishan hit a total of ten sixes and 24 fours in his knock and most of the runs from his bat came through boundaries. India piled up 409 for 8 in the match and won the ODI by a huge margin of 227 runs. &nbsp;

2. Sachin Tendulkar 200* vs South Africa

Sachin Tendulkar was the first male cricketer in the cricketing world to score a double ton in ODI cricket and he achieved the feat against a high-quality South African attack in 2010 in Gwalior. Not many experts believed it could be a possibility until Tendulkar managed to break the barrier in 2010 at the Captain Roop Singh Stadium in Gwalior. &nbsp;

Tendulkar was quite aggressive throughout his innings and the incoming batters played the perfect foil to him by giving him most of the strike. The right-hander reached his century in quick time and went on to press the accelerator button post that. Towards the end of the innings, Tendulkar took on the bowlers without any mercy and reached a fantastic landmark. &nbsp;

He remained unbeaten on 200 off just 147 deliveries with 25 fours and three sixes in his innings and scored at an impressive strike rate of 136.05. India ended up with a massive total of 401 on the board and won the game by 153 runs to seal the three-match series.

1. Rohit Sharma 264 vs Sri Lanka

Rohit Sharma holds the record for the highest individual score in ODI cricket and this record is unlikely to be broken any time soon. At the beautiful Eden Gardens, Rohit came up with a special knock for the ages against Sri Lanka in 2014&nbsp;and left the cricketing fraternity in complete awe of his skills. The right-hander opened the innings and started off quite slowly until he reached his century.&nbsp;

However, once he crossed the three-figure mark, Rohit went bang and bang and got to his double century in just 151 balls. He did not stop there and was destructive in the last few overs which led to him reaching the 250-run landmark as well. The Sri Lankan bowlers looked out of answers to Rohit’s tremendous display.

After hitting 33 fours and nine sixes, Rohit’s breathtaking knock came to an end on the final ball of India’s innings. He finished with 264 off 173 balls, registering the highest individual score in List A cricket - a feat that was recently broken by <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-players/narayan-jagadeesan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">N Jagadeesan</a>&nbsp;in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022. &nbsp;
