  1. Ravindra Jadeja

Had he been available, he would have surely been in the squad and would have also made it to the playing XI for every game, because he’s the seasoned all-rounder that India has trusted upon. The recent Asia Cup group stage game against Pakistan is a prime example.

Jadeja suffered an injury to his knee during the Asia Cup 2022, which ruled him out of the continental event. He has undergone surgery successfully, but it will take him some time to get back into the game. As a result, he was ruled out of the marquee event as well.

To fill in the void for the left-handed spin-bowling all-rounder in the team, Indian selectors went ahead with Axar Patel, a perfect like-for-like substitute for Jadeja. Recently, Patel has also emerged as the batting option down the order, and thus he’s a good choice for the team.
