As a captain, it was imperative for Bavuma to play some classy innings to boost the confidence of other players in the team to win the trophy. But in the tournament, his contribution was minimal as he accumulated only 70 runs with an average of 17.50.
In the final group game, the situation got worse for the South African captain as his team crashed out of the competition by facing a shocking defeat at the hands of the Netherlands and it was very much due to the slow innings from him (20 runs off 20 deliveries) and De Kock (13 off 13 deliveries). In this World T20, he was expected to repeat his IPL performances for India, but his dismal numbers with the bat speak about his failure as a batter.
