T20 World Cup 2022: Match 30 - Predicted South Africa Playing XI vs India
South Africa will take on an in-form Indian team at the Perth Stadium on Sunday.
South Africa thrashed Bangladesh in their second match of the Super 12 stage after they were frustrated by rain in the first match. Although the Proteas will be buoyed by their 104-run victory against Bangladesh, they will be wary of the threat Rohit Sharma's India poses.
Temba Bavuma's side were unlucky to come out with just a point in their opening encounter against Zimbabwe but made a statement in the following game by annihilating a hapless Bangladesh. The Proteas are one of the dark horses of the ongoing T20 World Cup, and so far they have proved to be a good value for that tag.
But their biggest test in the tournament awaits on Sunday when they square off against Rohit Sharma's juggernaut. India are the only team in the competition to have not dropped a single point in the tournament so far and are eyeing a third successive win.
Here's South Africa's Probable Playing XI against India:
Openers – Quinton de Kock (wk), Temba Bavuma (c)
Quinton de Kock was at his sublime best during the game against Bangladesh as the southpaw registered a brisk 63 off 38 deliveries at the top of the innings to set the platform for the Proteas. It was his record-breaking stand with Rilee Rossouw, which broke the back of the Bangladeshi bowlers.
With every low score with the bat, the pressure is mounting on the South African skipper Temba Bavuma. His recent outings in white-ball cricket make for a horrid reading. Although the Protean team management are sticking with the diminutive cricketer, for the time being, he is becoming a liability for the Proteas.
Middle order – Rilee Rossouw, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs
Rilee Rossouw's two consecutive ducks against India has been followed by two marvelous tons in successive games. So he is either getting out for a duck or scoring a century in the next game, given the latest trend. The southpaw is in the form of his life since making his return to the national side and has become an indispensable asset to the team.
Another Protean batter who is under a bit of pressure is Aiden Markram. While the stylish batter remains one of the most watchable batters in the shortest format of the game, he has not been able to convert his starts into a big score. South Africa will hope he can regain his form with the business end of the tournament fast approaching.
David Miller and Tristan Stubbs remain key figures in the South African middle order as both of them are capable of clearing the long boundaries in Australia with quite an ease. They have not been afforded much time in the middle in the previous outing thanks to Rossouw's belligerence. But they will need to be on their toes in the upcoming fixture against India.
All-Rounders – Wayne Parnell, Keshav Maharaj
Wayne Parnell had an uncharacteristically quiet game against Bangladesh as his fast bowling partner Anrich Nortje took all the plaudits for a sensational bowling spell. Parnell remains an invaluable asset to his side given his experience and expertise in the shortest format of the game. He might need to swing his willow a bit as well in a crunch game against India.
While the Protean pacers terrorize the batters with the new ball, veteran spinner Keshav Maharaj slowly goes about his work in the middle overs. A grafter of the highest order, Maharaj provides the stability with his guile and industry to the South African bowling line-up.
Bowlers - Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi
Kagiso Rabada might've just claimed one wicket against Bangladesh, but he was a constant menace against the subcontinent side. The lively pitch at Perth will surely delight the fast-bowling spearhead, who will be looking to further his tally in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Another South African bowler who would've been eagerly waiting to bowl at the Perth Stadium is Anrich Nortje, whose pace was too much to handle for the Bangladeshi batters. He will be up against much tougher opposition in India but will be hoping to replicate his four wicket-haul from the previous encounter.
The extra pace and bounce at the Perth Stadium would force the Proteas to go with another fast bowling option in Lungi Ngidi in place of Tabraiz Shamsi. It might be a bit harsh on the star spinner, but the pace has been the go-to option for teams in Perth so far.
