Pakistan and Bangladesh will square off in their last group match on Sunday, November 06. Both teams now have four points, and a victory here will raise their total to six. If either South Africa or India lose to the Netherlands or Zimbabwe, the winner of this match may be able to advance to the semi-finals (if they can surpass India’s NRR). Therefore, this game is essentially a knockout for both teams.
Bangladesh should view their game against India as unlucky as rain derailed their momentum and allowed India the much-needed two points. They will want to make one last effort to win their final game of the tournament so they can go home with pride. They have surpassed their expectations in this tournament.
On that note, let us take a look at Bangladesh's probable playing XI against Pakistan:
Openers – Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das
Opening batter Litton Das thrashed the Indian bowling line-up in his previous outing. The right-handed batter threatened to take the game away from the Indian side, but unfortunately got run out as the Bangla Tigers side suffered a hard defeat.
His partner, Shanto looked scratchy in his innings against India and also got out at the wrong time when his team required the most. Shanto will be looking to play a match-winning knock against the Men in Green in the upcoming encounter.
Middle-Order: Yasir Ali, Afif Hossain, Nurul Hasan (wk)
Batter Yasir Ali failed to live up to the expectations of the Bangladeshi fans as he could not even cross the double-digit scores in his previous encounter against India. Ali is a capable hitter of the cricket ball and will look to play an impactful knock for his team against Pakistan.
Similarly, Afif Hossain and Nurul Hasan have not been able to perform well in the competition. While Afif was sent back to the pavilion cheaply against India, Nurul played his shots but could not get his team over the line.
All-Rounders: Shakib Al Hasan (c) and Mosaddek Hossain
Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has performed well in patches in the tournament. The left-arm spinner grabbed the crucial wicket of KL Rahul in the previous game but failed to play an impactful knock for the team with the bat.
Similarly, Mosaddek Hossain has not been able to get going either with the bat or the ball. Mosaddek has been a member of the Bangladesh squad for quite some time and he will look to play a crucial role for his team against the Men in Green.
Bowlers: Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam
Barring Taskin Ahmed, the rest of the Bangladeshi bowling line-up received a thrashing at the hands of the Indian batters in the previous game. The likes of Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam will look to do some damage to Pakistan's batting line-up. Hasan Mahmud who generally bowls during the middle phase of an innings will look to keep the batters quiet and put pressure on the opposition's batting line-up.
Bangladesh's probable playing XI against Pakistan: Najmul Hossain Shanto, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan (c), Afif Hossain, Yasir Ali, Mosaddek Hossain, Nurul Hasan (wk), Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam
