Australia (AUS) qualified for the Super Eights of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 with four wins on the trot. They defeated Oman to kickstart the campaign and kept up the momentum with victories against England, Namibia and Scotland. There were various concerns for them leading up to the tournament and some of them were answered in the group stage but the Mitchell Marsh-led side still needs answers for some.

Glenn Maxwell’s form is concerning and that’s one area that the team management needs to address immediately. The star all-rounder struggled in the IPL 2024 and failed to make a mark in the T20 World Cup. Tim David looked in good touch against Scotland but both him and Matthew Wade barely batted in the tournament. The bowling unit however looks sorted and is likely to threaten Bangladesh in the Super Eights match on June 21 at Antigua.

Ahead of that, here’s how Australia can line up against Bangladesh:

Openers - David Warner, Travis Head

Leading up to the T20 World Cup, David Warner’s form was closely monitored as one section of the supporters preferred Jake Fraser-McGurk over the southpaw. However, the team management kept faith in the opener and he delivered in the group stage. Warner made 116 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 146.83 and would hope to continue with the same momentum in the business end of the tournament.

His opening partner Travis Head had a slow start but is slowly finding his feet. The swashbuckling cricketer smashed 68 runs off 49 balls in Australia’s last game against Scotland and overall has 148 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 157.44. Against Bangladesh in Antigua, where the batters have had a good time, Head would fancy his chances of delivering for the team yet again.

Middle order - Mitchell Marsh (c), Tim David, Matthew Wade (wk)

Skipper Mitchell Marsh is yet to come to the party. He left Delhi Capitals early nursing to a hamstring injury and since then, the 32-year-old hasn’t been at his best. He is a game-changer and played a good role against England but there’s a lot of room for improvement. He also hasn’t bowled so far in the tournament, but there’s a sense of belief that he might pick up the ball in the Super Eights.

Tim David dashed a few boundaries to help Australia beat Scotland in the final over of the game. He has all the strength to clear boundaries with ease and the surface in Antigua will also help him in the middle. When it comes to Wade, the keeper-batter batted twice in the tournament and remained not out on both occasions. He can finish games for Australia if needed but needs more game time.

All-rounders - Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell

Marcus Stoinis has been one of Australia’s best players in the tournament. The Hulk, as he is popularly called, has smashed 156 runs in four matches at a staggering strike rate of 190.24. He is currently the tournament's fourth-leading run-scorer and has six wickets to his name. On a batting-friendly surface, Stoinis can once again wreak havoc and make a difference.

Glenn Maxwell, on the other hand, made just 39 runs in four matches. The 35-year-old needs to get back to his best, or else the likes of Josh Inglis or Cameron Green can replace him in the playing XI. Meanwhile, with the ball, the all-rounder has two wickets to his name in the tournament.

Bowlers - Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa

The trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood is expected to play only for the second time this tournament. Cummins and Hazlewood were given rest in Australia’s last match against Scotland while Starc was given rest in the match against Namibia. All the pacers will be fresh, which is a positive sign for the team.

Adam Zampa meanwhile has been the star with the ball for Australia. He has nine wickets to his name in four matches and has an economy of 5.86, which is splendid, to say the least. The surface in Antigua did offer some help to the spinners in the match between South Africa and USA, something which would interest Zampa.
