6. 4/29 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2024

It was the curtain-raiser of the seventeenth edition, in which the defending champions Chennai Super Kings were taking on the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The visiting team's skipper Faf du Plessis, the ex-CSK player who represented the Men in Yellow across two separate stints, opted to bowl first. Coming into bowl in the fifth over after not being given the new ball, Mustafizur Rahman's first over was quite an eventful one. After being puched through the covers by the RCB skipper, he dismissed him via taking pace off the ball, bowling an off-cutter which du Plessis miscued to the fielder stationed at deep point. His second wicket came on the final ball of his first over, dismissing the struggling Rajat Patidar through a classic Test match dismissal, with the batter nicking it behind for a comfortable take for CSK's wicketkeeper MS Dhoni.

The Fizz's next two wickets came in the 12th over of RCB's innings, with his third being that of Virat Kohli. The RCB icon managed to pull a short-of-a-length ball to the deep-midwicket fence, where Ajinkya Rahane initially took the catch, and had the presence of mind to relay it to Ravindra Jadeja before sliding into the cushions. Mustafizur's fourth and final wicket came after an interval of a single delivery, with him cleaning up RCB's new acquisiton Cameron Green with a delivery which kissed the top of Green's leg stump, leaving RCB in all sorts of trouble with their score reading 78/5 in the 12th over.

Notably, these were his best figures in the IPL and was the first time he had claimed a four-wicket haul in the marquee tournament. Although he gave away 22 runs in his final two overs which were bowled in the death, the damage had already been done with him rattling RCB's top and middle-order, leading up to him eventually bagging the Player of the Match award for his marvellous outing with the ball.
