8. Bangladesh vs India, 2007 ODI World Cup
Bangladesh locked horns with India in a Group B game of the 2007 50-over World Cup. The Men in Blue won the toss and elected to bat. The Rahul Dravid-led team had a top-class batting line-up and the Bangla Tigers had a daunting task of containing them. But what followed was simply remarkable.
Mashrafe Mortaza set the tone with the ball striking twice upfront while other bowlers came to the party later on denting India at regular intervals. As a result, Dravid & co. could only manage 191 runs with Sourav Ganguly (66 runs at 129 balls) top-scoring for them and Yuvraj Singh providing the only other notable contribution with 47 off 58 deliveries.
After the bowlers put on a show, the likes of Tamim Iqbal (51 runs off 53 balls), Mushfiqur Rahim (56 runs off 107 balls), and Shakib Al Hasan (53 runs off 86 balls) put up a valiant effort with the bat registering half-centuries to take their team across the line with nine balls to spare and five wickets in hand.
Courtesy of this famous win, Bangladesh progressed to the Super 8 stage while India after suffering yet another defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka were knocked out of the marquee tournament.
