3. Bangladesh vs New Zealand, 2017 Champions Trophy

By 2017, Bangladesh were not competitive enough to reach the knockout stages of ICC events. But the Bangla Tigers changed history by getting into the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 courtesy of a hard-fought win against New Zealand.

After opting to bat first, the Black Caps posted 265 runs on the board riding on half-centuries from Kane Williamson (57 runs off 69 balls) and Ross Taylor (63 runs off 82 balls). Bangladesh in response had quite a poor start and were in all spots of bother at 33 for 4. The match was turning into a one-sided affair but Shakib and Mahmudullah had other plans.

The veteran duo knocked the winds out of the New Zealand bowling attack and stitched a stunning 224-run stand for the fifth wicket to stage a remarkable victory to seal a spot in the semi-finals. Though Shakib (114 runs off 115) got out with his team on the brink of a win, Mahmudullah (102* runs off 107 balls) stayed till the end to see his team through. And thus, Bangladesh defeated the Kiwis by five wickets.
