10 bowlers who can attract big bids at IPL 2023 auction

T20 cricket is a fickle format where batters have their say more often than not and bowlers have little margin for error. With batters mastering innovative strokeplay and power-hitting, bowlers need to continuously upgrade themselves to be a step ahead. There are certain bowlers who have aced this challenge and have made the T20 circuit their own. In big tournaments such as the Indian Premier League, teams having top-drawer bowling attacks are the ones that have stayed ahead in the race. It is the reason why franchises have gone all guns blazing to pick quality bowlers at the IPL auctions. For instance, fans saw a bidding war between franchises at the 2022 mega auction to pick seamers such as Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, and Lockie Ferguson. With the upcoming auction scheduled on December 23, there are some gun bowlers who could fetch big bucks at the marquee event. Here are the bowlers who can attract big bids at IPL 2023 auction: 10. Vidwath Kaverappa Vidwath Kaverappa is one of the promising fast bowlers in the Karnataka cricketing circles. He took the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2022 by storm with his sensational bowling displays and bagged 18 wickets in eight games at a fantastic economy of 6.36. It included a sensational five-wicket haul against Jammu & Kashmir. The right-arm fast bowler dented the opposition with the new ball and was also quite impeccable at the death. Kaverappa’s bowling exploits were instrumental in Karnataka reaching the knockout stages. He was also sensational in the 2022 Maharaja T20 trophy and took 17 wickets in 13 games while playing for Gulbarga Mystics. The Karanataka pacer continued his rich vein of form in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 and bagged nine wickets in the five games played thus far. Kaverappa’s stocks in the domestic circuit have been on a meteoric rise and many IPL franchises would like to add the ace seamer to their quiver. 9. Chintan Gaja Chintan Gaja has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit across formats. The 28-year-old has featured in 34 first-class games and bagged 122 wickets at an average of 22.68. When it comes to the shortest format, he has picked 35 scalps in 29 games at an economy of 6.73. Gaja can make the ball talk at the start of the innings and has dismantled batting line-ups with the swing he generates. In SMAT 2022, he was quite impressive and bagged nine wickets in five games at an economy of 8.05. The Gujarat pacer recently wreaked havoc in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 and bagged 15 wickets in mere seven games at an economy of 4.31. Picking up early wickets is key to the success of a team and Gaja has been phenomenal in striking with the new ball. He could be a valuable addition to any franchise and one could see many teams raise their paddles to pick the Ahmedabad-born at the forthcoming auction. 8. Chama Milind Chama Milind is currently one of the most exciting prospects in the Indian domestic circuit. The 28-year-old has featured in 45 List-A matches and bagged 82 wickets at an economy of 5.34. Talking about the T20 format, he has been sensational and has bagged 86 scalps in 59 games at an economy of 7.75. Milind was the leading wicket-taker in the 2021 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and bagged 18 scalps in seven games at an economy of 8.41. Courtesy of the phenomenal show, the ace pacer was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore at the 2022 mega auction. However, he did not get a single game in the competition. The Andhra Pradesh pacer was not in the scheme of things of the Bangalore franchise and RCB decided against retaining him for the 16th edition of the lucrative T20 tournament. Milind being a left-arm pacer can bring variety to any pace-attack and also can provide handy contributions with the bat, making him a tempting option for IPL franchises. Thus, many teams would be eager to pick the Hyderabad-born at the IPL 2023 auction. 7. Joshua Little The stocks of Joshua Little in the international circuit have been on a meteoric rise of late. The Dublin-born has played 26 T20Is in this (2022) calendar year and bagged 39 wickets at an economy of 7.58, which is quite brilliant given he bowls a lot at the fag end of the innings. Little set the T20 World Cup 2022 on fire with his stunning bowling displays. The 23-year-old featured in seven matches at the T20 carnival and bagged 11 wickets at an economy of 7.00. He was at the forefront of a historic win against the eventual T20I champions England, picking up two scalps for 16 runs. He also took an incredible hat-trick against New Zealand. The Irish pacer was also outstanding in The Hundred conducted earlier this year and took 13 scalps in five games for Manchester Originals at an economy of 7.42. Little has been exceptional in the T20 landscape and has the potential to make the IPL arena his own. Therefore, many franchises could go all guns blazing to select the left-arm pacer at the auction. 6. Tabraiz Shamsi Tabraiz Shamsi has been a proven performer in the shortest format of the game. He has featured in 204 games and bagged a staggering tally of 237 wickets at an economy of 7.23. The ace spinner has numerous variations up his sleeve, which includes a hard-to-pick wrong-un. Shamsi has been a wrecker-in-chief for South Africa in the middle phase of the innings and has taken 73 scalps in 59 T20Is at an economy of 7.14. Dushmantha Chameera Dushmantha Chameera is a tall and lanky pacer with the ability to clock speeds of over 140 kmph on a consistent basis. He has featured in 42 ODIs and bagged 44 wickets at an economy of 5.41. In T20Is, the 30-year-old has picked up 52 wickets in as many games at an economy of 8.08. Chameera is a skiddy customer and can rush batters off the surface. Lucknow Super Giants roped in the speedster for the 2022 season to bolster their pace attack. However, the Sri Lankan pacer could not perform as per expectations and bagged nine scalps in 12 games at an economy of 8.73. The Lucknow franchise released the Ragama-born ahead of the 2023 IPL auction. Though Chameera was a bit mediocre last season, his inclusion can add variety to any bowling unit. Also, when on song, the express pacer can dismantle any batting line-up. Thus, it might not be a surprise if many franchises bid for him at the upcoming auction. 4. Adam Zampa Adam Zampa is Australia’s premier spinner in the limited-overs circuit. The leg-spinner has been entrusted to provide crucial breakthroughs for his national side and has delivered the goods on most occasions. The 30-year-old has featured in 72 T20Is and bagged 82 wickets at an economy of 6.93. Zampa is a wily customer and has the ability to deceive batters in the air and off the pitch. He has shown his bowling might in T20 leagues around the world and picked up a total of 253 scalps in 218 games played in the shortest format at an economy of 7.30. The veteran spinner has fared well in the lucrative T20 tournament as well and picked up 21 wickets in 14 matches at an economy of 7.74. Though the Barbados-born has proven his worth on the international stage and in various T20 competitions, he is yet to make a mark in the IPL. He has played 28 games in the cash-rich league and managed to bag 27 wickets at quite a high economy of 9.32. Though Jordan is yet to taste success in the lucrative T20 tournament, he brings a wealth of experience to any side, and given the kind of classy bowler he is, a great IPL season could be around the corner. Further, he is no muck with the bat and can play helpful knocks for his side. In addition to that, he is a world-class fielder. Jordan offers a lot as a player and therefore, franchises could look to rope in the England cricketer at the IPL 2023 auction. 1. Kane Richardson Kane Richardson has proven his mettle in T20 leagues around the world and evolved into one of the most sought-after fast bowlers in the shortest format. He has played 154 T20 games and taken a sensational tally of 200 wickets at an economy of 8.05. The 31-year-old has played 35 T20Is and bagged 44 scalps at an economy of 8.33. Richardson can bowl at any phase of the game and is well-known for his death-over skills. He has a pin-point accurate yorker in his arsenal and can nail it at will. The Australian pacer put on a show with the ball at The Hundred 2022 and picked up 13 scalps in seven games at an economy of 7.89. Many franchises do not have top-drawer bowlers to deliver the goods at the fag end of the innings and they could look at someone like Richardson to address their death-bowling concerns. Therefore, IPL teams could go hammer and tongs at the auction to include the Eudunda-born on their side.
