Shakib Al Hasan is arguably the finest all-rounder Bangladesh cricket has ever produced. He has been a match-winner with both bat and ball and has proven his mettle across formats. ODI cricket has been his stronger suit, where he has notched up 6835 runs in 224 matches and bagged 294 wickets at an economy of 4.44.

Shakib has been phenomenal in the longest format as well. The southpaw has featured in 65 Tests and scored 4367 runs at an average of 38.64. On the bowling front, he has bagged 231 wickets at an average of 31.18.

In the last year or so, the veteran all-rounder has taken constant breaks to manage his workload. Moreover, Shakib  in the past has labelled playing all three formats as a daunting task and has had doubts over how much he could extend his international career.

In a conversation with ESPNcricinfo in March 2022, Shakib stated “Considering my mental and physical state, I don't think I can play so much international cricket. If I get a break, if I get my interest back, I can play with more ease”

Therefore, the 35-year-old could retire from Test cricket to lengthen his career in white-ball formats.
