Since its inception in 1975, teams have always played their best player to win this trophy and it is not surprising that every World Cup win has an amazing story behind it. With everything at stake, teams always prefer to have their strongest players in the squad and that ultimately means as much experience as possible.
With so many players coming back into their sides after long keeping in mind the showpiece event with the likes of Ben Stokes and Ravi Ashwin. However, the mix of youth and players playing their first edition is also important for the energy of the event. As the first-timers have been lucky to lift silverware several times in history may repeat itself.
While the likes of Andrew Symonds (2003) and Virat Kohli (2011) were lucky enough to win the trophy in the first attempt someone like Sachin Tendulkar took sixth time to get past the winning line. Here we will discuss the 10 players who will attempt to grab the silverware in the first attempt but have been exciting players for their teams in the last few years.
Here are the players who will debut for their countries in ODI World Cup 2023:
1. Shubman Gill (India)
Shubman Gill is considered one of the most exciting talents or the next big thing in Indian cricket. He made the opening position his own through his excellent technique and consistency. Now a mainstay in all 3 formats for India, Shubman will be playing his first limited-overs World Event.
Though it is his first ODI World Cup, Gill has won the Under-19 World Cup in 2018. He was not just a winning member but the Man of the Series as well. Gill has performed fabulously in ODIs and was successful in displacing Shikhar Dhawan from the spot to partner skipper Rohit Sharma in format. A lot will depend on Gill’s form in the tournament if India wants to win the trophy for the third time.
Shubman Gill is currently number second ODI batter in the ICC rankings and has been continuously batting with an amazing temperament. The 24-year-old is already the highest run-getter of this year and will be eyeing the highest runs in ODIs in a single calendar year. He is one of the players to watch out for this time and will be catching all the eyeballs.
