2. MS Dhoni’s international career with a runout completes a full circle with a run out
India reached the semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2019 and clashed with New Zealand in Manchester. New Zealand opted to bat first after winning the toss and posted 239/8 with fifties from Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor. New Zealand completed their innings on the reserve day due to rain.
But the rain proved to be doom for India. Trent Boult and Matt Henry rocked the top order as Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli all fell for 1 run each. In no time, India was reduced to 92/6. MS Dhoni walked out to bat at no.7 and steadied the ship with Ravindra Jadeja.
Both batters scored the fifties and took India within touching distance despite the climbing required run rate. Jadeja fell first for 77 runs, but every Indian fan had still hopes of a win as Dhoni was still there. Unfortunately, MS Dhoni was runout for 50 and India fell short by 18 runs.
This also proved to be MS Dhoni’s last international innings as well as he retired in 2020. Incidentally, MS Dhoni was run out on his debut in 2004 as well against Bangladesh and ended his international career on a similar note.
