IPL will return in 2023 with its 16th installment to deliver excitement and thrill to its fans. However, before that, the mini-auction will be conducted on December 23, 2022, in Kochi in which numerous players will take part.

The auction will be crucial for both franchises and the players who will go under the hammer. Some renowned players such as Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, and Cameron Green are expected to attract big amounts.

Among Indian names, uncapped players like Narayan Jagadeesan, and Vidwath Kaverappa among others might start a bidding war among the franchises owing to their spectacular displays in the 2022-23 domestic season.

On the contrary, there are some Indian veterans who could be snubbed by the franchises due to their inefficiency in the last few seasons of the cash-rich league. These names were once match-winning players for the Indian team but in the last few years, their performances have been below par in both international cricket and in the domestic circuit.

3. Karun Nair

Karun Nair grabbed the limelight in 2016 after he samshed a triple hundred (303*) against England in the Chennai Test. Following that innings, the Indian cricket fans expected him to become the next big thing in Indian cricket across formats. However, the right-handed batter couldn’t do justice to all those expectations.

The same thing happened in the IPL too as his form declined and he failed to produce quality knocks for the franchises he played for. In the upcoming auction, he has also registered his name at a base price of INR 50 lakhs. However, going through his past displays in the last five seasons, there are chances of him getting ignored by the franchises.

Talking about his overall performance in the league, the 31-year-old cricketer has disappointed with the bat racking up only 1,496 runs in 76 games at an underwhelming strike rate of 127.75. With these dismal numbers, the right-handed may not get a buyer at the upcoming auction.
