2. India vs West Indies in 2013 West Indies tri-series
In 2013, India and the West Indies faced each other in the second game of the triangular contest at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica. After winning the first game of the series against Sri Lanka, the West Indies were looking to strengthen themselves more in the competition by getting another win over the MS Dhoni-led India. At the toss, the West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard emerged victorious and elected to field. Batting first, India didn’t have a decent start as both Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli left the crease early by scoring 11 runs each.
After the fall of early wickets, Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik had a slow and steady partnership of 59 runs to stabilise the innings. But again with the dismissal of both the batters, India were in trouble at 124/4 in 31 overs. With only 19 overs left in innings, India had the challenge to put up a fighting score on the board. With major contribution from Suresh Raina (44 runs) and MS Dhoni (27 runs), India posted 229/7 in 50 overs.
In the pursuit of 230 runs, the West Indies batters also struggled as they lost their first three wickets at a score of 26. But with the arrival of Darren Bravo at the crease, things changed as the opener Johnson Charles built a 116-run partnership with him to keep the West Indies alive in the chase. Ravi Ashwin broke the dangerous stand with a key breakthrough of Bravo (55 runs).
After the left-handed batter’s wicket, the West Indies team again found itself in a difficult situation as their prime batters Pollard and Denesh Ramdin threw their wickets cheaply. However, again Sammy’s rapid 29 off 25 and Charles’s 97 off 100, helped the tail-enders Kemar Roach and Tino Best to finish the game in the West Indies’ favour by one wicket.
