The coveted Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) will be back with its seventh edition on June 12, 2023. Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) and Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) will look to defend their titles while other franchises will also strive to play quality cricket throughout the competition and take the prestigious trophy home.
For some veterans who are participating in the league since 2016, this year’s tournament might become their last appearance in the league. Noting the age of a few players, it won’t be wrong to speculate that they could hang up their boots after the upcoming 2023 edition of the league. In the upcoming season, eyes will be set on these players and they will look to make the tournament huge with their dazzling performances.
Here are three players who might retire after the TNPL 2023 edition
3. Shijit Chandran (Siechem Madurai Panthers)
Shijit Chandran is active in the league since 2016. In his vast league career, he has served Siechem Madurai Panthers (SMP) and Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK). From 2016-19, Chandran served SMP as a middle-order batter. In Madurai’s title win in 2018, Chandran played a key role with his bat.
Scoring 213 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 116.39, he became the second-leading run-getter for his side in the competition. In the crucial final match, he held his nerves and stitched a 117-run partnership with Arun Karthik to take the team home by seven wickets with his unbeaten 38-run knock off 49 deliveries.
Chandran joined Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) in 2022 and in his new team, the veteran’s role was to play as a middle-order batter. However, with only 76 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 104.10, he failed to justify his role in the side. This year, he will play for Madurai Panthers again and this time, if he fails to perform up to the expectations, there are chances that he might bid adieu to the league.
