No words can do justice to what Virat Kohli means for the franchise. He has been with RCB ever since the inception of the league. Countless cricketers have come and gone, yet Kohli's presence has been the constant cornerstone over the years. In an ever-dynamic league where loyalty from both parties, team and player, is exceptionally scarce, Kohli and RCB have been an extraordinary anomaly. The leading run-getter in the history of the IPL has been instrumental to RCB in almost all of their seasons.
Although RCB have never been able to achieve silverware, they had a quite decent track record with Kohli at the helm. 46.15% of the matches were won with Kohli as skipper (66/143). Other than the immeasurable passion and aggression Kohli brought on the field, his batting performances were seen to be considerably enhanced during the matches he was leading the team. His average and strike rate were both better as captain of the side (41.96 and 133.21) in contrast to those as a regular player (34.20 and 129.79). With du Plessis not being retained by the franchise, Kohli was a strong candidate to step in once more.
