Bangladesh are undergoing a massive transformation in their team and the captaincy conundrum is also a longstanding issue with the team. Bangladesh Cricket Board have once again reposed their trust in Shakib to help them taste success more often in the T20I format. However, it has been a dismal fresh stint for Shakib, as a leader of the Bangla Tigers in the shortest format.
Bangladesh crashed out of the first round of the Asia Cup 2022 after losing both their league matches and haven't managed to deliver well in the ongoing T20I Tri-series in New Zealand either. Some tactics certainly need to be changed by the management and Shakib, in order to have an impressive campaign in T20 World Cup.
Three strategies Shakib Al Hasan can implement to lead Bangladesh to glory in T20 World Cup 2022
1. Introducing spinners in powerplay
Over the years, spinners have been a strength for the Bangladesh team in white-ball cricket. With impeccable line length, they have been able to pick wickets consistently, especially on home soil. The squad for the showpiece event comprises three spinners, Nasum Ahmed, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib.
Although the pitches in Australia will be helpful for fast bowlers, Bangladesh can only succeed if their spinners are backed to bowl upfront, which has been the case for quite sometime now. Currently, two to three pacers have been bowling in the powerplay overs in New Zealand, and have been largely ineffective in containing runs.
In this regard, Mehidy Hasan, who has been impressive in keeping things tight at his end, can be given at least two overs in the powerplay. Generally, Shakib bowls in the middle overs, but can bowl in the last over of the fielding restrictions to put batters in check or to bag a dismissal.
