5 Asia Cup records that might never be broken
These five feats might never be touched by any of the players in the future of the Asia Cup.
2. Ajantha Mendis's 6/13 figures
Ajantha Mendis broke into international cricket in 2008 and within a few months, he became a star player due to his disciplined bowling. In Sri Lanka’s 2008 Asia Cup victory, Mendis played a pivotal role with the ball. Grabbing 17 wickets in five matches at a marvellous economy of 3.45, the talented spinner ended up as the leading wicket-taker in the competition.
His best performance came against India in the final at National Stadium, Karachi. Defending 273 runs for his team, Mendis bowled eight overs and picked up six wickets, and gave away only 13 runs. With his tight bowling, he emerged as a mystery for Indian batters.
In his excellent spell, he demolished India’s top order and middle order, picking up crucial players like Virender Sehwag, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma, and Irfan Pathan. The offbreak bowler concluded his spell with 6/13 figures in eight overs. In the Asia Cup, fans might not witness this kind of scintillating performance ever in the continental trophy’s final.
