3. Shahadat Hossain vs Zimbabwe in 2006, Harare
During July-August, 2006, Bangladesh toured Zimbabwe for a five-match ODI series. After two games, the series was level 1-1 with Zimbabwe winning the first ODI by two wickets and Bangladesh defeating the home team in the second game by 62 runs. In the third contest, both teams were locking horns again at the Harare Sports Club.
Prosper Utseya, the skipper of Zimbabwe, after winning the toss elected to bowl first. While batting, Bangladesh couldn’t start well and lost their openers Javed Omar and Shahriar Nafees early but Rajin Saleh (54 runs), Aftab Ahmed (53 runs), and Mohammad Ashraful (46 runs) with their steady innings helped their team to put up 236 on the board.
Defending 237, Bangladesh bowlers built pressure on Zimbabwe by sending their four batters back to the pavilion with 131 on the board. To make their job difficult, Shahadat Hossain also struck hard by clinching a hat-trick and dismissed Tafadzwa Mufambisi, Elton Chigumbura, and Prosper Utseya.
With these three wickets, Hossain became the first Bangladeshi bowler to pick up a hat-trick in ODIs. Although Bangladesh lost the match by two wickets, Hossain with his incredible spell of 3/34 won the hearts of many fans.
