In 1982, former Pakistan cricketer Jalal-ud-Din was the first bowler to grab a hat-trick and he achieved the feat against Australia.
2. Taskin Ahmed vs Sri Lanka in 2017, Dambulla
In 2017, Taskin Ahmed joined an elite list featuring legendary bowlers such as Wasim Akram, Brett Lee, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Lasith Malinga among others by picking up a hat-trick against Sri Lanka in a bilateral series.
Elated with a 90-run victory over the Lankan Lions in the first ODI, the Bangla Tigers were looking forward to sealing the series by bagging a victory in the second ODI at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla.
Sri Lanka skipper Upul Tharanga after winning the toss decided to bat first. Tharanga, in the game, led from the front by playing a valuable innings of 65 runs off 76 balls after the early dismissal of opener Danushka Gunathilaka (9 runs). While riding on Kusal Mendis’s 102-run knock off 107 deliveries, Sri Lanka crossed the 300-run mark.
But Taskin, who was given the task to bowl the last over, brought cheers to the faces of his teammates and fans as he claimed a hat-trick with scalps of Asela Gunaratne, Suranga Lakmal, and Nuwan Pradeep. The match ended without any result due to a heavy downpour. But Taskin, by bagging the hat-trick, wrapped up his spell with the figures of 4/47 in 8.5 overs, and also etched his name in the record books.
