2. Dhoni’s captaincy alone didn’t win us the World Cup
In 2011, India clinched the World Cup trophy after 28 years under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. In the competition, Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh rocked the tournament with their scintillating performances. MS Dhoni also played a significant role, especially in the final, with his captaincy and batting.
The fearless opener Virender Sehwag also contributed to the team with 380 runs in eight matches at a swashbuckling strike rate of 122.58. In the opening game against Bangladesh, he began India’s campaign with an outstanding 175-run innings.
While talking about the famous title triumph in 2012, Sehwag took a jibe at MS Dhoni saying, "Dhoni got a very strong team. When you get a strong team, it is easier to perform well just like Australia did at one point of time. We won World Cup because we had a very strong team which was ably backed by Dhoni’s leadership."
