After hammering England by 15 runs in Adelaide, Bangladesh’s next assignment was to face hosts New Zealand in the 37th game of the 2015 World Cup. The Kiwi skipper Brendon McCullum got lucky during the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first. Within the first ten overs of the game, the visitors lost their openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes cheaply.

In the critical situation, Mahmudullah displayed maturity and utilised his experience to take the game forward for his team. Along with Soumya Sarkar, the veteran stitched a 90-run partnership that gave momentum to lower middle-order batters. Carrying confidence from his previous outing, Mahmudullah hit the second-consecutive century.

This time, he played a sensational knock of 128 off 123 to power his team to post 288/7 in 50 overs. At the end of the contest, the Black Caps clinched a three-wicket triumph but Mahmudullah's exceptional knock received a lot of appreciation from avid cricket supporters.
