Piyush Chawla has had a chequered career in the Indian Premier League (IPL) thus far. In 181 games, he has 179 wickets with a best of 4/17 and an economy of 7.91. He has been part of Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings, but had found the most success with Kolkata Knight Riders and recently with Mumbai Indians.

Chawla had gone unsold in the IPL 2022 auction, but MI surprisingly picked him in the IPL 2023 auction and he repaid the faith with 22 wickets in 16 matches. However, despite being just 35 years old, Chawla’s fitness and effect have diminished quite a bit and there are far younger and more talented leg-spinners on the horizon. If he is released by MI, Chawla might find it hard to find another home for the IPL 2024.
