4. Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh, 2nd Test, Colombo, 2017
After facing an embarrassing defeat by 259 runs at the hands of Sri Lanka in the first Test in Galle, Bangladesh came out to play the second match at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo. Sri Lanka were favourites ahead of the game as they had never lost to Bangladesh in the longest form of the sport before.
On the other hand, the Bangla Tigers were under pressure to win the match and level the series to salvage their pride.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka skipper Rangana Herath elected to bat first, but the start delivered by his top-order batters was not ideal as Sri Lanka lost their first four wickets with just 70 on the board. But Dinesh Chandimal with his innings of 138 runs helped the Lankan Lions to put up a healthy score of 338 in the first innings.
In reply, Bangladesh struck back hard by taking a lead of 129 runs with their first innings score of 467. Shakib, one of the experienced batters of Bangladesh, showed once again why he is one of the best batters of his team by smashing 116 runs.
With such heavy lead, Bangladesh bowlers had the responsibility to wrap up Sri Lanka's second innings at a low and win the game for the team. Shakib, after his incredible knock with the bat, dazzled with the ball and took four wickets in the second innings.
With his remarkable effort, Bangladesh ended the Sri Lankan innings for 319, which meant that the Bangla batters had a mere 191 to chase. Sri Lankan skipper Rangana Hearth with his fierce bowling tried to trouble Bangladesh by dismissing Soumya Sarkar and Imrul Kayes early, but Tamim Iqbal with his 82 run-knock made the way for the team to win the contest with four wickets in hand.
