5 most memorable victories of Bangladesh in Test cricket
Bangladesh, in recent years, have shown remarkable signs of development in the longest form of the game by shaking top Test-playing nations.
2. Bangladesh Vs New Zealand, 1st Test, Mount Maunganui, 2022
Bangladesh started 2022 with a bang by creating history as they clinched their first-ever Test victory in New Zealand against the Black Caps. In the absence of Kane Williamson, Tom Latham was leading the side against the visitors.
Batting first, New Zealand were cruising smoothly towards a huge score but the Bangladesh bowlers in Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz with their spectacular bowling rattled the lower middle order and the lower order of the Kiwis to end their innings at 328.
On a rapid track at the Bay Oval, the Kiwi pacers Trent Boult, Tim Southee, and Kyle Jamieson were ready to become a headache for the Bangla batters but skipper Mominul Haque with his 88 run-knock led the team from the front. Litton Das also showed his class by hitting 86 runs. Other batters Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz also delivered impactful innings for the team as Bangladesh took a lead of 130 runs by scoring 458.
By virtue of the lead over the Kiwis, Bangladesh had gained momentum in the game, and to continue with that, their bowlers had to deliver an extraordinary performance in the second innings. Leading the bowling attack from the front, Taskin Ahmed drew first blood by dismissing New Zealand skipper Tom Latham.
While Ebadot Hossain with his spell of 6/46 bamboozled the Kiwis by sending their batters Will Young, Devon Conway, Ross Taylor, Tom Bundell, Henry Nicholls, and Kylie Jamieson back to the pavilion. New Zealand's second innings ended at 169. With 40 runs to win, Bangladesh chased the target easily with eight wickets to spare.
