1. Bangladesh vs India (2012)
In the 2012 Asia Cup, Bangladesh concluded their journey as runners-up but the most positive thing that happened to them in the competition was that they succeeded in outclassing the favourites of the tournament India and Sri Lanka. After losing the inaugural match by 21 runs against Pakistan, they played an aggressive brand of cricket to qualify for the final.
Playing the second game in Mirpur, Bangladesh won the toss and invited India to bat first. Riding on Sachin Tendulkar’s 100th international ton, Virat Kohli’s 66(82), and Suresh Raina’s swift 51 off 38, India gave Bangladesh a massive target of 290. Defending the total, the Men in Blue got an early breakthrough as Praveen Kumar picked up Nazimuddin.
After Nazimuddin’s wicket, Tamim Iqbal and Jahurul Islam stepped up and strengthened their team with 70(99) and 53(68). The knocks of both batters boosted the confidence of middle-order batters as well. Nasir Hossain, who played 54-run innings, built a 68-run partnership with Shakib to bring the Bangla side back into the game. Following Shakib’s dismissal, Mushfiqur took India’s bowling unit to the cleaners and took Bangladesh home with his match-finishing knock of 46 off just 25. At the end of the game, Shakib got the Player of the Match award for his 49-run innings off 31 deliveries.
