Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are two of the most successful franchises in the history of the Indian Premier League. In the 15 editions of the lucrative T20 tournament played thus far, MI have won the tournament on five occasions whereas CSK have been crowned champions four times.
But in the last IPL season, the two marquee teams were nowhere close to their vintage selves and could just win four out of their 14 games in the league stage.
Mumbai and Chennai would like to make amends for their horrendous last season and in a bid to do so, they would look to draft some top-drawer players at the upcoming mini-auction to fill up the holes in the squad. However, there are a few T20 stars whom both franchises will likely be eager to pick and go hammer and tongs for at the mini-auction. This can in turn trigger a bidding war between MI and CSK.
5. Vidhwath Kaverappa
Vidhwath Kaverappa is one of the exciting fast bowlers going around in the Karnataka cricketing circles and has proven himself as a genuine wicket-taker in domestic T20 competitions. In the Maharaja T20 Trophy 2022, he was too hot to handle while playing for Gulbarga Mystics as he bagged 17 wickets in 13 games.
The right-arm pacer carried his rich vein of form in the 2022 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). Kaverappa featured in eight games for Karnataka and picked 18 wickets at an economy of 6.36. It included a sensational five-wicket haul against Jammu & Kashmir. The Karnataka pacer has been quite lethal with the new ball and can also strangle batters at the fag end of the innings.
In the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League, both Mumbai and Chennai lacked penetration on the bowling front and were not able to dent the opposition by taking regular breakthroughs. The addition of Kaverappa could help lessen their wicket-taking woes and the two marquee teams might try to add the right-arm pacer at their disposal.
