2. Sunil Narine
Sunil Narine started his journey in Kolkata Knight Riders as a bowler in 2012. In his team’s maiden title triumph, the spin wizard powered his team with 24 wickets in 15 matches at an economy of 5.47. Riding on some of his incredible bowling displays in 2012, Knight Riders won games comfortably in the competition.
Knight Riders lifted the trophy for the second time in 2014; this time, he played a crucial role with the ball. Scalping 21 in 16 games at an economy of 6.35, he ended up as the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament. In 2017, he donned the role of an all-rounder for the franchise by taking up the job of an opener.
In 2023, KKR skipper Iyer’s back injury ruled him out of the league, which left a leadership vacuum in the team. With Iyer’s unavailability, there were talks in the media that the veteran might be seen leading the two-time IPL champions, but in the end, the appointment of Nitish Rana ended all the discussions.
