After breaking ties with Steve Smith in 2021, Rajasthan Royals appointed Sanju Samson as their skipper. The franchise trusted Samson’s leadership talent over England’s batter Jos Buttler, who had been serving the team since 2018, with his wicketkeeping and batting skills.

The England wicketkeeper batter consistently delivered good numbers to Royals from his bat from 2018-20. Playing his first season for RR in 2018, he became the highest run-scorer for the team, racking up 548 runs in 13 games at a scintillating strike rate of 155.24.

In 2019, he again had a blast with his bat by smashing 311 runs in eight games at a remarkable strike rate of 151.70. Despite noting these colossal figures of the stylish England batter, the RR team management finds Samson perfect for the captaincy role. Under Samson’s captaincy, the England veteran became the Orange Cap winner for RR with 863 runs in 17 matches.
