Bhuvneshwar Kumar played a vital role in India’s trophy triumph in 2018. He grabbed six wickets in five matches at an economy of 4.19. In the group match against Pakistan, he bagged 3/15 figures with the ball and guided India to an emphatic eight-wicket victory. He also received the Player of the Match award for his sensational bowling figures against the arch-rivals.

Following the 2019 World Cup, Bhuvneshwar’s performance slumped in white-ball cricket which led to his removal from India’s ODI team. In December 2021, he toured South Africa and played two games of the three-match one-day series. However, he failed to pick up any wickets in the competition and also splurged runs at an expensive economy of 7.27.

His ineffective performance against the Proteas added charcoal to the fire and selectors lost their patience and dropped the speedster from ODIs. The Paarl one-day in January 2022 was his last appearance in the format. Noting his dismal spells in competitive cricket, selectors didn’t induct Bhuvneshwar into the Indian team for the 2023 Asia Cup as well.
