Following the announcement of the Asia Cup team by Rohit and Agarkar, a lot of Team India cricket fans were shocked to see Yuzvendra Chahal’s name missing from the list. Chahal, who toured the West Indies, didn’t get any match in the three-match ODI series. This year, he played two ODIs in which he got three wickets at an economy of 5.82. In the West Indies tour, Kuldeep Yadav was preferred over Chahal to bolster India’s spin-bowling unit with Ravindra Jadeja. Noting Kuldeep’s fine bowling numbers, the team management decided to drop Chahal.

In the 2018 Asia Cup, Chahal was a member of the Indian team and he played his part brilliantly. Clinching six wickets in five matches at an economy of 4.47, he helped India retain the trophy. For the Asia Cup 2023, Axar Patel has been preferred over Chahal as selectors felt the former’s all-round capability could help India win another continental trophy.
