4. Keshav Maharaj
Keshav Maharaj has been a proven performer for South Africa across formats. He is a wily customer and is renowned to strangle batters with his impeccable lines and lengths. In the T20Is, he has played 21 games and taken 19 wickets at an economy of 7.18.
The left-arm spinner has been a vital cog in the South African bowling attack. While the Kagiso Rabadas, the Anrich Nortjes, and the Tabraiz Shamsis look for wickets, Maharaj holds the other end ensuring that the scoring rate is kept in check. In the recent T20I series against India, while the other bowlers were under the pump, he was at his consistent best taking four wickets in three games at an economy of 7.09.
The Indian circuit has a great depth of top-quality spinners and IPL franchises already have numerous options up their sleeve. This has been a major factor in Maharaj not having played the marquee tournament up till now. Also, with the limit of eight overseas slots, his chances of getting an IPL gig becomes tough.
