Over the years, Bangladesh have certainly improved their performance across all formats. In the first decade of this century, they struggled to fight against the top cricketing nations. However, the players featuring for the team have certainly pushed the bar with their striking performances.
There have been many cricketers, who have put up a strong show in a few of their appearances, which now see them as the possible record holders in the near future. Here are some astonishing feats achieved by the Bangladesh cricketers, which don’t seem to be broken easily by any player.
1. Only cricketer in this century to score a hundred and take 10 wickets in a Test match
One of the finest all-rounders to feature for Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan has been a consistent contributor to the Bangladesh team since his debut in 2006-07. Many among the cricket fraternity judge him as an average player in the Test format, but his stats are awe-inspiring. In 63 games, the 35-year-old has 4251 runs and scalped 225 wickets.
In November 2014, Shakib etched his name into the history books in a red-ball fixture against Zimbabwe. In the first innings, he delivered a knock of 137 and managed to pick up 10 wickets in the fixture, to became the first and only player in this century to achieve this unique feat.
Before him, the likes of Alan Davidson, Ian Botham and Imran Khan returned with 100 runs and 10 wickets in a Test in 1960, 1980 and 1983 respectively. However, the record is quite tough to match for any cricketers in today’s time.
