5 young players who might fade away after this IPL 2025

The Indian Premier League has been a great platform for budding Indian cricketers to rub shoulders with some of the stalwarts of the game. In almost every season, there have been multiple youngsters who impressed the cricket fraternity with their skill sets. IPL 2025 has been no different, with several youngsters managing to make a mark amidst the big names in world cricket. However, in previous editions, fans have witnessed the emergence of some talented players who faded in the following days. One of the biggest examples is Paul Valthaty, who scored a brilliant century in IPL 2011 for Punjab Kings (PBKS) but failed to live up to his hype after that season. Shreevats Goswami, who was the emerging player after the first couple of seasons in late 2000s, failed to have any other season of note since then. In this article, CricTracker lists five young cricketers who might fade away after the 18th edition of the 10-team tournament. Here are the five young players who might fade away after IPL 2025: 5. Ashwani Kumar Ashwani Kumar. (Photo by INDRANIL MUKHERJEE/AFP via Getty Images) Ashwani Kumar made his IPL debut in the Mumbai Indians' (MI) clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders on March 31. He had a stunning outing, picking up four wickets in three overs. The left-arm seamer was adjudged Player of the Match for his remarkable performance. However, he has gone for 81 runs in his next five overs and picked up only a couple of wickets. The 23-year-old Punjab speedster has the potential to play for India in the future, but there is a lot of work left to be done. He should try and learn as much as he can from MI's bowling coach, Lasith Malinga, who was one of the finest white-ball bowlers of his time. 4. Vipraj Nigam Vipraj Nigam. (Source:IPL) Vipraj Nigam burst onto the scene on his IPL debut against Lucknow Super Giants while playing for Delhi Capitals this season. The leg-spinner bowled inside the powerplay and picked up the important wicket of Aiden Markram. However, his outing with the bat impressed experts as well as fans. Nigam smashed 39 off 15 balls, batting at No. 8, and played a key role in helping the Capitals chase down a 210-run target from a precarious position. However, the 20-year-old has lacked consistency in the following games. He has put in some brilliant performances in a couple of matches with the ball, but the last few games haven't gone his way. With more exposure and experience, the Uttar Pradesh all-rounder will improve. 3. Shaik Rasheed shaik rasheed (Source: IPL/X) In the IPL 2025 mega auction, the 20-year-old Shaik Rasheed was picked by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who are usually known for relying on experienced cricketers. However, with the likes of Rahul Tripathi and Deepak Hooda failing to do well, Shaik Rasheed got his opportunity in Chennai's seventh game of the season and made an enterprising 27 off 19 balls. However, the right-handed batter got stuck in the following game against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, where batters generally play free-flowing knocks. Rasheed's 20-ball 19 hurt CSK as they failed to make the most of the powerplay overs. The Andhra batter might get a few more opportunities this season as CSK are all but out of the competition. If he doesn't perform too well, he might still be retained by the Men in Yellow for next season, but making the playing XI could be difficult as new players will be signed from the mini-auction. 2. Aniket Verma Aniket-Verma. (Photo Source: X/IPL) Aniket Verma made his debut in Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) first game of the season against the Rajasthan Royals. He played an impressive innings in his second appearance for the Orange Army as he smashed an electrifying 13-ball 36. However, his best knock came against the Delhi Capitals, when he made a 41-ball 74. Since that clash, runs have dried up for the 23-year-old. He has shown promise and played a few cameos but a big knock has eluded him. It is also important to note that Verma hasn't had too many overs to bat, with the more experienced batters coming out to bat before him. 1. Digvesh Rathi Digvesh Singh Rathi. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Digvesh Singh Rathi created quite an impact, especially in the first few games of the season. He was fined a couple of times for his 'notebook' celebration after picking up wickets, but it showed his competitive attitude on the field. The Delhi leg-spinner has outshone the more experienced Ravi Bishnoi this season in the LSG team, and that is no mean feat. However, the last few games haven't gone Rathi's way. In his last five games, the 25-year-old has only picked up three wickets. Rathi will want to finish the season on a high and establish himself as one of the players to look out for in the future.
