2014 became a golden year for Sri Lanka with Angelo Mathews in charge, as apart from winning various tournaments that year, the Lankan Lions won the 2014 Asia Cup. The island nation reached the quarter-finals of the 2015 World Cup under Angelo’s captaincy. Alongside averaging 62.2 with that bat in 2014 and had successful years in 2017 and 2018 with the bat averaging respectively 63.6 and 52.5. With the ball in ODIs, he took overall 120 wickets at an impressive 4.6 economy rate. <o:p></o:p>
The issue with Angelo has been that injuries have plagued him for large amounts of time and this has curtailed his participation. His body hasn’t allowed him to play as many matches as he could’ve. He doesn’t bowl as much these days which often went against him as he was seen as the anchor man to contribute to Sri Lanka’s batting and bowling. Fast bowling-wise, there is heavy competition in the squad with Dasun Shanaka and Lahiru Kumara making in-roads, and Wanindu Hasaranga has cemented his place as the lower-order all-rounder.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>
The recent World Cup qualifiers saw Angelo get dropped from the squad and his participation beyond now is not clear. Whether Angelo plays in the Asia Cup is doubtful, but he can be proud of his achievements and what he has done for Sri Lankan cricket.<o:p></o:p>

A mighty fine all-rounder who more than often delivered for Afghanistan. Coming in to bat regularly from 5th – 7th, he more than often made the quick runs at a strike rate of 80+. Scoring over 1000 runs batting at 6th. He has captained the Afghanistan team on various occasions and currently sits as their 2nd most successful ODI captain in terms of wins. Mohammed Nabi has proven to be a big reason for transforming Afghanistan into a winning team. &nbsp;<o:p></o:p>
Mohammed Nabi was the trusted cricketer who due to his worthy performances at the international level, achieved successful stints playing franchisee cricket in overseas leagues. His reputable bowling delivered him 147 ODI wickets at a modest 4.3 economy rate.
The 38-year-old Nabi will soon be touching the 40-year mark old, by the time the 2025 edition of the Asia Cup arrives, and due to the immense talent Afghanistan is producing, Nabi will more than likely not be featuring in the side for much that long.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>

His natural shot-making ability has always made him a special batter and his stats back up his champion status. &nbsp;His captaincy has allowed India to taste success on various occasions, be it winning various limited-overs series or winning the Asia Cup in 2018 in an outstanding match against Bangladesh. &nbsp;<o:p></o:p>
In ODI cricket, Rohit Sharma averages 48.6 in a span of 243 games to date. He is 15th in ODI leading run-getter and has a realistic chance to be in the top 10 by the time he retires.<o:p></o:p>
Although he made his debut in 2007, he didn’t show his full potential as a batter until the 2013 Champions Trophy, where he came good and found his place as the permanent opener. Ever since 2013, he joined Virat Kohli to be the forefront of the Indian batting lineup. In the 2019 Cricket World Cup, the 'Hitman' scored five centuries which became a record and is currently tied with Sachin Tendulkar with six hundreds scored in World Cups in totality.<o:p></o:p>
Rohit Sharma was made captain after the Virat Kohli saga in late 2021/ early 2022. At times his captaincy has been questionable. There have been blemishes and he has had two opportunities to win India a trophy (2022 T20 World Cup and 2023 Test Championship Final), but India failed to win either of them.<o:p></o:p>
Hence, by the time the next Asia Cup comes in late 2025, Rohit will be 38 years old. It’s very likely captaincy would have been passed onto someone else by then and a change of selection committee may favour a younger opener to represent India. Fitness could also be an issue, and there are doubts as to if Rohit will still be playing all forms of cricket by late 2025.<o:p></o:p>

A dependable wicketkeeper-batter who made his ODI debut way back in 2004, but got a second chance to be in the Indian team again after he proved himself in franchisee cricket. <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/social-tracker-cricket/ashes-2023-dinesh-karthik-compares-lords-test-with-englands-bodyline-to-bradman-blueprint/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dinesh Karthik</a> aka DK later got known to be a reliable hitter down the order due to his T20 skills he brought into the ODI game. DK has played 94 ODIs to date with a modest average of 30.2, this included nine 50s.<o:p></o:p>
The last time Dinesh Karthik played in an ODI was in 2019 and is out of contention for being selected for the upcoming Asia Cup. He is most likely set to announce his retirement from international cricket very soon. His time with the Indian team is most likely up and this is due to the younger talent knocking on the doors and wanting that similar opportunity. He faces fierce competition with the likes of Ishan Kishan, and Sanju Samson are all set to cement their position along with other batters such as Surya Kumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Rinku Singh, and Tilak Verma are in the scheme of things as well.<o:p></o:p>
Whenever DK does bow out of the game, he can go with his held head high knowing that he got recognised and selected again due to his hard work. His career in the commentary box now awaits.
