Sri Lanka will jointly host the Asia Cup in 2023 and have the huge advantage of playing at home. They are the defending champions, having won the Asia Cup 2022 in T20 format. <o:p></o:p>
While their final squad is yet to be announced, their batting and bowling have the likes of Pathum Nissanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Kusal Perera, Dasun Shanaka, and Kusal Mendis, to name a few. But their bowling unit was badly hit by injuries, and three of their frontline bowlers are most likely to be ruled out of the tournament. <o:p></o:p>
Pacers Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara were ruled out due to injuries, as Chameera suffered a shoulder injury in the recent LPL, while Kumara is still uncertain as he is not match-fit after recovering from an injury that kept him out of World Cup qualifiers. <o:p></o:p>
But the biggest blow to them came when star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga is likely to be ruled out due to his thigh injury, as Sri Lankan team management does not want him to further aggravate it while playing in the Asia Cup 2023. They want him to be ready for the World Cup and will be conservative with his reintroduction to top-flight cricket.

The Pakistani team recently acquired the No. 1 ranking in the ICC ODI team rankings thanks to their 3-0 whitewash of Afghanistan in Sri Lanka. <o:p></o:p>They have a formidable unit in batting led by Babar Azam and featuring Mohammad Rizwan, Imam Ul Haq, Fakhar Zaman, and Salman Agha, amongst others. Pakistan also boasts a quality bowling attack featuring <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-players/shaheen-afridi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Shaheen Afridi</a>, Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah, amongst others. <o:p></o:p>
However, their one big weakness is a lack of a quality all-rounder, as they recalled Faheem Ashraf to the side as a pace all-rounder, despite him playing his last ODI two years ago. Though they have included Mohammad Nawaz in the team, the exclusion of someone like Imad Wasim raised eyebrows.<o:p></o:p>
They do have Mohammad Wasim, who is capable with the bat as well, but when compared to the pace all-rounders the other participating teams have, Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Wasim are not of the same quality.

India were one of the last to announce their Asia Cup 2023 squad, which features 17 members. The Rohit Sharma-led side won the Asia Cup when it was played in the ODI format in 2018 and would love to emulate that win once more.<o:p></o:p>
The Men in Blue side’s batting has always been strong and features the likes of captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill at the top and big hitters like Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja in the lower order. <o:p></o:p>However, their concern has always been the middle order, and while they have named Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma in the squad, the focus will remain on the returning duo of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer.<o:p></o:p>
Both underwent surgeries for their respective injuries and have missed quite some time, as Iyer has been out of action since March and Rahul since May this year. They have been included on the basis of just one practice match at the NCA, and it remains to be seen how they do in the actual match in the middle. To compound their troubles further, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-players/kl-rahul/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">KL Rahul</a> has been ruled out of India's first two matches due to injury.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>
This weakness of their players returning to the squad without much game time behind them also extends to the bowling unit, with Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna returning from back injuries. They played in the Ireland T20Is, in which one match was washed out.<o:p></o:p>
But Bumrah and Prasidh impressed with the way they bowled after being out of contention for almost a year. Also, Mohammad Shami is coming off a rest as well, as he was not picked for the West Indies tour, and Mohammed Siraj is coming off an ankle injury.<o:p></o:p>
