2. Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan didn’t get picked up for the continental tournament to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Despite his experience and batting numbers, selectors ignored his name. The southpaw has the experience of 167 ODIs in which he scored 6793 runs with 17 tons and 39 half-centuries.
In the 2018 edition of the Asia Cup, he became the Player of the Series for his outstanding batting performance. Racking up 342 runs with a couple of tons in five matches at a strike rate of 102.08, he also ended up as the leading run-getter in the competition. However, his performance saw a huge plunge in the last few years.
India lost the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh in December 2022 and in the series, the veteran opener scored only 18 runs in three matches at a dismal average of 6.00. Following that series, the team management showed faith in young openers such as Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan to support captain Rohit as an opener.
