Asia Cup 2023: Ranking teams based on batting strength

The ongoing Asia Cup 2023 has so far showcased some great batting. All 6 teams have come to the tournament with an incredible group of batters who can take the game away from the opposition at will. A total of 13 matches will be played in the Asia Cup 2023, which includes six league matches, six Super 4 matches, and a final. Pakistan and India were seeded as A1 & A2 While Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were seeded as B1 & B2. In case Nepal and Afghanistan qualify for the Super Four stage, they will take the slot of the team knocked out (Pakistan or India in Group A and Sri Lanka or Bangladesh in Group B). Given that the tournament is being played in Asian conditions, batters are going to rule the roost when it comes to taking the spotlight. Though there are very good bowling sides in the Asia Cup 2023, batting will be the main thing under focus throughout the competition. Hence, here is how the six teams fare when ranked based on their batting strength: 6. Nepal Nepal Team (Photo Source: Twitter) The debutant nation in the Asia Cup, Nepal managed to beat 9 other teams in the recent ACC qualifiers to make it into the top six and are placed alongside heavyweights India and Pakistan in Group A. They are a very young side, led by 20-year-old Rohit Paudel, who is also perhaps their best batter. Kusal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh are their opening pair, while Dipendra Singh Airee is one of their well-known batters. Then comes the long list of all-rounders in Gulshan Jha, Sompal Kami, and Kushal Malla, and Nepal will hope that they can withstand an assault by top-notch bowlers from India and Pakistan. 5. Afghanistan Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi brings calm to the middle order. Then they have the experienced Mohammad Nabi, Rahmat Shah, and Karim Janat, who are capable of withstanding some of the best bowlers in the competition and when quick runs are needed, you can count on Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman to come to the party. 4. Bangladesh Mehidy-Hasan-Miraz-and-Najmul-Hossain-Shanto. (Photo Source: Twitter/ICC) Bangladesh were dealt two heavy blows as openers Tamim Iqbal and Litton Das were ruled out of the tournament as the former captain battles a back injury, while the keeper-batter fell ill with flu. This leaves them with Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim as their two best batters. In the supporting role, they have Mohammad Naim, Najmul Hasan Shanto, and Towhid Hridoy, all aggressive batters. Amongst the all-rounders, you have Afif Hossain, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who can tonk the ball in death overs. Check: Most Runs in Asia Cup 2023 3. Sri Lanka Charith Asalanka and Kusal Mendis. The top order is full of experience, including Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, and Pathum Nissanka. They can both go after the bowling or rebuild if early wickets are lost. Then comes the middle order which is led by captain Dasun Shanaka, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Charith Asalanka. They have Sadeera Samarawickrama and Dushan Hemantha as backups if Sri Lanka wants more aggression anywhere in the batting lineup. 2. Pakistan Babar Azam and Iftikhar Ahmed. Then they have Imam Ul Haq, the anchoring opener who pairs with Fakhar Zaman, the only Pakistani to hit an ODI double ton. Mohammad Haris and Mohammad Rizwan provide stability in the Pakistani batting order with Abdullah Shafique and Saud Shakeel as the backup. Pakistan is also blessed with all-rounders who can bat well, including vice-captain Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Nawaz, and the electric Iftikhar Ahmed, known to turn games with his power play style of batting. 1. KODIKARA/AFP via Getty Images) The 7-time Asia Cup champions India undoubtedly boasts of the best batting lineup in this year’s edition as they have Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli leading the way. Both batters hold a plethora of records in ODIs and have been prepping the young guns as well. Next comes the young stars Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill, along with the majestic Suryakumar Yadav, known for his 360-degree range of strokes. However, the biggest plus for India is that both their middle-order batters KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have recovered from injury and are back to bolster an already impressive batting unit. Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are capable of finishing the innings with a bang and as a backup they have Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, and yet-to-debut Tilak Varma waiting in the wings.
